The New England Center for Children® (NECC®), a global leader in education and research for children with autism, announced today the election of John Y. Kim, 56, as Chair of the Board of Directors. Mr. Kim is President of New York Life, America’s largest mutual life insurance company, and has been involved with NECC since 2006. He succeeds Lisel Macenka, who will assume the vice-chair position after serving as chair for five years and a director for 10 years.
“All of us at The New England Center for Children are delighted and fortunate to have John leading our Board of Directors. He has been instrumental in NECC’s growth, co-leading our recent $10.9 million capital campaign and contributing to the creation of the John and Diane Kim Autism Institute,” said Vincent Strully, Jr., CEO and Founder of The New England Center for Children. “John’s experience, passion and perspective as a parent and successful businessman make him uniquely qualified to help lead us to new levels of excellence in serving children with autism and their families.”
Mr. Kim is President and Chief Investment Officer of New York Life, which he joined in 2008 after a 25-year record as a highly successful business executive with deep knowledge of investment management and strong operational skills. Prior to joining New York Life, he had been president of Prudential Retirement. Mr. Kim earned his Bachelor in Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan and holds an MBA degree from the University of Connecticut.
“I am honored to chair the Board for The New England Center for Children, a special place whose mission of autism education and research is critically important,” said John Kim. “I am humbled by their achievements and look forward to helping NECC continue its innovations in autism technology, research and education. The builders and keepers of this institution are the 1,200 teachers and staff, whose work dramatically impacts and improves the lives of thousands of students.”
